Texans Select D.J. Swearinger In Second Round

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) - With the 57th overall pick, the Texans selected free safety D.J. Swearinger from South Carolina.  Swearinger, 6-0 and 210, had career stats of 6 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, and 94 yards in 52 games over four seasons with the Gamecocks.

In  a press conference immediately following his selection, Swearinger said what he wanted the Texans to pick him and would like to learn from the Hall of Famer Ed Reed.  The second-round pick said that he would most like to gain Reed’s ability to read quarterbacks.  Being from South Carolina, he also knows the Texans first-round pick DeAndre Hopkins well and looks forward to playing with him in the NFL.  Swearinger said he was most comfortable with his cover skills, footwork, and ball skills.

“I just want to make plays for the defense,” Swearinger said.
